A fantastic visit to the Monet and London exhibition at the Courtauld - I’m a big fan anyway but it was much better than I anticipated. Just three views, painted on identical canvases, but such amazing variety: brushstrokes, vibrancy, tone, texture - you can see crossovers with Turner, Van Gogh, fellow Impressionists and hints of the water lilies to come. Of course the photos don’t do justice to the ridiculously sumptuous colours - you can get lost in any part of these paintings just on an abstract level. Proof that there is an upside even to terrible polluting smog. Completely recommend - it’s so good that they are back on the Thames at last - thank you Courtauld!
